28 December 2024 • 4 mins read

On December 28, 2024, the Civilians Association (Singapore) celebrated its rich legacy with the 60th Anniversary Book Launch Event at Hillview Community Club, the birthplace of CAS. This milestone event was a heartfelt homage to the journey of CAS, which has tirelessly worked towards fostering community harmony and cultural pride.

Organized by dedicated CAS members and led by Ms. Satiahkala, daughter of one of the pioneer members, Mr. Pakirisamy, the event showcased the association's enduring commitment to connecting generations and honoring its founders.

The evening began with melodious singing performances, followed by a speech from Mr. Narayanasamy that set a nostalgic tone. The arrival of Guest of Honor, Ms. Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State and Mayor of South West District, was marked by an elegant Indian traditional dance that celebrated cultural vibrancy.
Ms. Satiahkala narrated the journey of CAS, highlighting its humble beginnings and the vision of its founding members. Following this, speeches by Mr. Sellvem and Ms. Low Yen Ling resonated with themes of perseverance, unity, and service to the community.
The highlight of the evening was the official launch of the 60th Anniversary Book, titled "Humane Journey of a Soccer Team".

Authored in Tamil by Mr. Yousuf Rajid and translated into English by Dr. Rajeswari Sreenivasan, the book chronicles CAS’s remarkable journey through the lens of its grassroots initiatives.

Ms. Low Yen Ling unveiled the book, signing both versions, and presented appreciation awards to the authors, founders, and sponsors. The event concluded with vibrant musical performances and heartfelt interactions, symbolizing the strong bonds within the CAS family.

This event was a deeply emotional homecoming for the CAS community, bringing together pioneers, families, and volunteers to celebrate their shared history and achievements. The success of the evening reaffirmed CAS’s dedication to building a harmonious and inclusive society, making the event a landmark in its ongoing journey of service and community enrichment.
